Happy Diwali!

Diwali Lights

We live in a diverse neighborhood. I feel that exposure to diversity is important in raising children and growing as children and adults. I noticed quickly after Halloween, several of our neighbors started hanging up lights. I thought, “Surely they are not ambitious about Christmas, already?” I did a quick google search (thank goodness for google). I found that the Festival of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, started on November 3rd this year, and lasts for five days. Returning this afternoon after a walk with my family I saw more neighbors hanging lights up outside their homes. Then, I saw several dressed up as they went to their temple. Before they left for their temple, they had turned on every single light in and outside of their home and opened their windows. I showed my boys their brightly shining homes and then rocked and nursed Miss C in the glow of their lights shining through her thin curtains into our home.

Happy Diwali!

P.S. Here is a link on the Festival of Diwali for the kids.
